About the position

The Utilities company is seeking a dedicated Risk Manager to join their expanding team. This role is crucial in ensuring that claims are managed effectively and efficiently, with a focus on reducing costs while maintaining high standards of service. The Risk Manager will be responsible for overseeing the entire claims process from inception to resolution, ensuring that all claims from various branches are handled appropriately. This includes developing and implementing risk management policies and protocols aimed at mitigating potential risks associated with the company's operations. In this position, the Risk Manager will collaborate closely with the general counsel, attorneys, and other stakeholders to resolve claims and manage litigated issues. The role requires a proactive approach to driving the claims process, working with adjusters to ensure timely follow-through on action items. The Risk Manager will also act as the primary liaison with insurance brokers, adjusters, and workers' compensation carriers, ensuring that all incidents are reported, investigated, and resolved in a timely manner. Additionally, the Risk Manager will analyze and approve claims loss and expense reserves established by insurance carriers, working in conjunction with other members of the Risk Management Department. The position involves travel to various field locations to assess risks, investigate incidents, and implement risk mitigation strategies. The ideal candidate will also be responsible for developing process improvements within the risk management program to enhance overall efficiency and effectiveness. This role will provide guidance on general liability and workers' compensation issues and will partner closely with the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) team on OSHA investigations and risk mitigation efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure claims are handled correctly and at a reduced cost.
  • Manage the claims process from occurrence to closure, including administrative tasks and claims software entry.
  • Develop and implement risk management policies and protocols to mitigate potential risks.
  • Collaborate with general counsel, attorneys, and stakeholders to resolve claims and handle litigated issues.
  • Drive the claims process with adjusters to ensure timely follow-through of action items.
  • Act as the primary liaison with insurance brokers, adjusters, and workers' compensation carriers.
  • Oversee and manage all incidents, ensuring proper reporting, investigation, and resolution.
  • Analyze and approve claims loss and expense reserves established by insurance carriers.
  • Travel to various field locations to assess risk and implement risk mitigation strategies.
  • Develop and implement process improvements in the risk management program to enhance efficiency.
  • Provide guidance on general liability and workers' compensation issues.

Requirements

  • Experience as an adjuster, preferably in workers' compensation.
  • Experience working as a paralegal or in a law firm dealing with injury cases and claims.
