As a Claims Trainee, you will embark on a structured training program designed to equip you with the necessary skills to handle and resolve low complexity commercial claims effectively. This position operates under close supervision and within defined authority limits, ensuring that you receive the guidance needed to succeed in your role. Upon successful completion of the training program, you will be responsible for investigating and resolving claims in accordance with company protocols and customer service standards. Your role will involve regular communication with customers and insured parties, ensuring that their needs are met and that they receive timely updates regarding their claims. You will develop a working knowledge of commercial insurance, manage an inventory of claims, verify policy coverage, gather necessary information, and maintain appropriate documentation. As you progress, you will learn to determine liability and compensability by conducting thorough investigations, taking statements, and collaborating with internal and external partners. Your ability to negotiate settlements and authorize claim disbursements will be developed under the guidance of your manager. Additionally, you will be expected to identify opportunities for subrogation and salvage, as well as potential fraud occurrences, ensuring compliance with state and local regulations. Responsibilities

  • Develop a working knowledge of commercial insurance and manage an inventory of low complexity claims.
  • Verify policy coverage and gather necessary information to maintain appropriate file documentation.
  • Interact professionally with insureds, claimants, and business partners to contribute to customer satisfaction.
  • Review and interpret policy language to establish timely and adequate reserves.
  • Conduct investigations to gather pertinent information and determine liability and compensability.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to facilitate best claim outcomes.
  • Authorize claim disbursements within authority limits with manager approval.
  • Identify and address subrogation/salvage opportunities or potential fraud occurrences.
  • Maintain compliance with state/local regulatory requirements and stay current on commercial insurance laws.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Strong desire to develop knowledge of the commercial insurance industry and claims practices.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills with the ability to demonstrate empathy.
  • Ability to develop collaborative business relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Analytical mindset with critical thinking skills.
  • Strong work ethic with demonstrated time management and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn business-related software.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to a changing environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • A 3.0 or higher GPA preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership through prior work experience or participation in extra-curricular activities.
  • Prior corporate internship(s) is preferred.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an Insurance Adjuster License, where applicable.
