About the position

The CLASS Career Coach (Student Services Coordinator) at the University of North Texas is a pivotal role within the UNT Career Center, which serves as the centralized office for career development and employment for all UNT students and alumni. This position is designed to lead initiatives aimed at enhancing career development and job search programs tailored for students in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS). The Career Coach will engage with students at various academic levels, providing individual advising, conducting group workshops, and facilitating classes that focus on career readiness and job search strategies. In this role, the Career Coach will analyze students' career paths, initiate career assessments, and offer tailored advice on resume development, interview preparation, and job search resources. The position requires the development and execution of workshops that not only educate but also engage students effectively, with a focus on assessing the impact of these programs and making necessary adjustments to improve student outcomes. Building strong relationships with faculty and administration is essential, as the Career Coach will collaborate with these stakeholders to enhance the career services offered to students. Additionally, the Career Coach will conduct job market research to provide relevant data to students and faculty, assist in employer development and relations, and support various initiatives within the Career Center. This role is integral to ensuring that students are well-prepared for the workforce and have access to the resources they need to succeed in their career endeavors.

Responsibilities

  • Lead efforts toward planning and implementing career development and job search programs and services working with students, faculty and staff in College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS).
  • Interface with students at all degree levels and alumni in assigned academic/programmatic areas.
  • Analyze student's career paths, initiate career assessments, and provide advice.
  • Develop and conduct workshops, assess their effectiveness, and implement changes needed to engage students.
  • Develop ongoing relationships and work cooperatively with faculty and administration in assigned areas.
  • Manage the assessment of career programs and services and deliver reports to their supervisor.
  • Lead job market research efforts for their assigned area, to provide current and relevant data to faculty and students.
  • Work directly with student organizations in making connections to corporate speakers/mentors.
  • Provide marketing career services to the students and faculty in the assigned department.
  • Assist with and support employer development and relations within the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences.
  • Provide assistance to other units in the Career Center and perform other duties as assigned for optimal operational success of the Career Center.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in related field and two years of student services, student affairs, counseling, advising, or related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Excellent public speaking skills with experience in conducting training workshops.
  • Ability to provide leadership and mentoring to student populations.
  • Experience in networking across departments and programs.
  • Ability to communicate and work with a diverse population.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to simultaneously execute multiple projects.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, and computer skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • A Master degree in Higher Education, Career Counseling, and/or equivalent degrees.
  • Background in and knowledge of College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS) academic curricula.
  • Experience with and understanding of recruiter needs for interdisciplinary functions within industry, non-profit, and government.
  • Knowledge of career development, resources and theories, job/internship search techniques and technologies.
  • Familiarity with career assessment tools.
  • Some experience in customer service is preferred.
