About the position

ECS is seeking a Classified Linux Systems Administrator to work in our Albuquerque, NM office. This position involves a variety of responsibilities that require a proactive approach to server administration and problem resolution. The successful candidate will receive tasks from multiple sources, including email, instant messaging, phone calls, ticketing systems, and in-person requests. In addition to responding to these tasks, the candidate will also self-identify projects and collaborate with customers to ensure their needs are met. The role requires performing server administration, software installations, and configurations, as well as hardware installations and configurations. Troubleshooting software issues and resolving problems will be a key part of the job. The candidate will work directly with RedHat Satellite and will be expected to document work done through various methods, including a ticketing system. Collaboration with other IT teams, such as corporate cybersecurity and firewall teams, is essential to ensure a cohesive approach to IT management. On-site work is mandatory due to the sensitive nature of the tasks involved, and the candidate will also engage with vendors to address complex hardware and software issues. This position is critical in maintaining the integrity and functionality of the systems managed by ECS, which supports the Federal Government's technology needs.

Responsibilities

  • Receive tasks from various sources including Email, IM, phone, ticketing systems, and in person.
  • Self-identify projects and receive them from customers.
  • Perform server administration, software installs and configuration, hardware installs and configuration, software troubleshooting and problem resolution.
  • Work directly with RedHat Satellite for system management.
  • Record work done using ticketing systems and other methods.
  • Partner with other IT teams such as corporate cyber security, firewall, and proxy teams.
  • Work directly with vendors to solve complex hardware and software issues.
  • Perform all work onsite due to the nature of the work.

Requirements

  • BS/BA in CS or IT related field and two (2) years of IT experience (or an additional 6 years of experience in lieu of a degree).
  • At least 2 years of Linux Server System Administration & UNIX experience.
  • RHEL system administration experience.
  • Familiarity with computer network protocols and network management technologies.
  • Skill in utilizing software diagnostic tools and conducting troubleshooting processes and upgrades.
  • Ability to define systems requirements based on user/client needs, cost, and integration with existing applications.
  • Ability to define technical standards and functionality tests, and to develop specifications, prototypes, or initial user guides.
  • Experience in customer service with good communication skills with customers, vendors, and database administrators.
  • US Citizen per contract and on-site.
  • Must have an active DOE Q Clearance Minimum to start or DoD Top Secret with reciprocity.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior working experience with Department of Energy or Department of Defense infrastructure.
  • RHEL Satellite administration experience.
  • STIGS implementation experience.
  • Ability to research, assemble, and evaluate information regarding industry practices or regulatory changes.
  • Experience with automation platforms such as Ansible, VmWare, Python (1-3 years).
  • Experience leading and implementing large technical solutions.
  • RHCE/CCNA certification.
  • Experience in Bash, PowerShell, or other scripting languages for automating System Admin tasks.
  • Experience with container technology, such as Kubernetes, RKE, Docker, etc.
  • Experience with virtualization, servers, storage, and networking equipment.
  • ESXI experience.
