This position is within Lockheed Martin Enterprise Business and Digital Transformation (EBDT) Classified IT Transformation organization. In acknowledgment of this opportunity, the Classified Transformation organization and leadership structure have been put in place, along with significant investment to drive positive changes to both transform and standardize Classified IT delivery. The Network Engineer will be responsible for designing and planning network communications systems, developing and overseeing system architectures, and serving as the focal point for the development and communication of the system architecture. This includes ensuring the conversion of mission requirements into total systems solutions that account for design and technology maturity constraints of the system. The role involves developing systems and system element architecture, design, and interface definition, as well as providing specifications and detailed schematics for network architecture. The engineer will also conduct testing of network design and maintain technical expertise in all areas of network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, multiplexers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc. Additionally, the engineer will evaluate and report on new communications technologies to enhance the capabilities of the network.

Responsibilities

  • Designs and plans network communications systems.
  • Develops and oversees system architectures, including complex systems and systems design activities.
  • Serves as focal point for the development and communication of the system architecture.
  • Ensures conversion of mission requirements into total systems solutions that account for design and technology maturity constraints.
  • Develops systems and system element architecture, design, and interface definition.
  • Provides specifications and detailed schematics for network architecture.
  • Conducts testing of network design.
  • Maintains technical expertise in all areas of network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing.
  • Evaluates and reports on new communications technologies to enhance capabilities of the network.

Requirements

  • Significant hands-on experience with network hardware, configuration, cabling, and support.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the OSI Model.
  • Cisco Switch and Routing Technology knowledge (Cisco ISR and Catalyst).
  • Experience with network system deployment.
  • Proven ability to resolve network connectivity problems.
  • Ability to document all network changes and maintain current topology drawings.
  • Experience supporting the acquisition of hardware and maintaining accurate inventory of devices in the field and in storage.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and capability to successfully explain procedures in writing or verbally.
  • In accordance with DoD 8570, position requires IAT II, CompTIA Security+ certification within 6 months of hire.
  • US Citizenship; Active US DoD SECRET clearance required prior to start.

Nice-to-haves

  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Certification.
  • Experience with Cisco GetVPN or other WAN encryption technologies.
  • Experience with Network Management tools.
  • Familiarity with DoD Cyber Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) and vulnerabilities.
