About the position
The Custodian position at Hollister School District involves performing routine cleaning and custodial functions at an assigned school site or facility. The custodian is responsible for the general cleanliness of the assigned area and typically works evenings. This role includes cleaning classrooms, restrooms, and other facilities, as well as performing minor maintenance tasks. Day-to-day supervision is provided by the School Site Principal.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine custodial functions at an assigned site/plant within the School District.
- Report safety, sanitary, and fire hazards to appropriate authorities.
- Set up and take down gymnasium and/or athletic equipment for classes and events.
- Clean classrooms, wash, scrub, and disinfect restrooms, showers, locker rooms, cafeteria, gymnasiums, offices, and related facilities.
- Sweep, mop, scrub, wax, and polish floors.
- Vacuum rugs and carpets in offices, faculty rooms, and classrooms.
- Replace light bulbs and lighting tubes.
- Wash windows and walls.
- Clean chalkboards, desks, and tabletops.
- Move and arrange furniture, books, and equipment.
- Lower flag, lock and unlock doors and gates.
- Set security system.
- Make minor, non-journey level repairs at assigned site.
- Report major maintenance needs to appropriate department.
- Perform related duties as required.
Requirements
- Knowledge of modern cleaning methods, materials, tools, and equipment.
- Safe operation of equipment and materials used in janitorial and custodial work.
- Simple record keeping.
- Ability to work evenings and nights.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to operate heavy floor cleaning equipment.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with others.
Nice-to-haves
- Some work experience demonstrating reliability preferred.
