About the position

The Systems Administrator role at MITRE involves supporting the deployment, operation, and maintenance of IT systems in a classified lab environment. This position is ideal for individuals with prior experience in classified IT systems administration, focusing on building, hardening, and maintaining Windows and Linux systems, as well as managing network infrastructure and storage systems. The role emphasizes collaboration, customer service, and adaptability in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support the deployment, operation, and maintenance of IT systems in a classified lab environment.
  • Build and harden Windows, Linux, and Hypervisor systems, such as VMware.
  • Patch and update Windows and Linux (RHEL, Ubuntu) server and desktop operating systems.
  • Update anti-virus software definitions for Windows/Linux server and workstation.
  • Perform user maintenance activities on both Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Conduct general systems administration tasks including patching, updates, and user support for Windows & Linux desktops and servers.
  • Manage network switches and VMware ESXi, vCenter platforms.
  • Oversee network storage systems and maintain other systems/services according to project needs.

Requirements

  • SECRET-level clearance
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience with a bachelor's degree; or 3 years and a master's degree; or a PhD with relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Working knowledge of server and client operating systems (Win10, Srv2016+, RHEL, Ubuntu Linux).
  • Fundamental understanding of lab IT architecture.
  • Fundamental understanding of system administration, network, and operating system hardening techniques.
  • Fundamental understanding of operating system command-line tools.
  • Ability to interface with customers and provide a high level of customer service.
  • Ability to function effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with others.

Nice-to-haves

  • Security+ Certification / 8570 Certification - IAT Level II (must earn within 6 months of hire date)
  • DoD Top Secret Clearance (will accept Secret)
  • Experience with programming/scripting languages (Chef, Ansible, Powershell, Bash, Python, etc.)
