About the position

The Classroom Aide at Amergis plays a crucial role in supporting students who require instructional and behavioral assistance. This position involves working under the supervision of the special education department to help students with personal, physical mobility, and therapeutic care needs. The Aide is responsible for implementing IEP objectives, facilitating learning activities, and assisting students in developing independent skills.

Responsibilities

  • Follows through with IEP objectives including math, reading, speech, independent skills, and managing behavioral deficits and excesses, one on one or as a general classroom aide.
  • Facilitates teacher-directed learning activities including lesson plans, worksheets, reinforcement systems, small groups, social games, and work assistance.
  • Assists students when included in general education classes.
  • Communicates pertinent information to teachers.
  • Accompanies students during recess and lunch periods, along with community experiences.
  • Strictly adheres to confidentiality requirements regarding all matters pertaining to students, parents, parent communications, and/or classroom activities.
  • Assists with activities of prescribed programs including those written by related service personnel such as PT, OT and SLP.
  • Assists students in the development of independent skills through self-care activities such as toileting, clothing routines, feeding and personal hygiene.
  • May be asked to assist in behavior management techniques at the direction of the teacher and/or other school professional.
  • Assists teacher with clerical duties including making stimuli, making copies, maintaining a clean and organized classroom, preparing materials, and assignment scoring.
  • Assists with transfers and ambulation.
  • Appropriately reports changes in client status or as directed by IHP/IEP.

Requirements

  • Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice.
  • Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable.
  • Current CPR if applicable.
  • TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable.
  • Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation).
  • Must meet all federal, state and local requirements.
  • Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site.
  • Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
  • Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required.
  • Computer proficiency required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
