About the position
The Classroom Aide at Merakey plays a crucial role in supporting children with disabilities or eligible young children under the guidance of a certified Special Education Teacher. This position involves assisting in instructional programs, classroom management, and implementing positive behavioral support plans, contributing to the educational development of students in various settings.
Responsibilities
- Support and assist in providing instructional programs and services to children with disabilities or eligible young children.
- Prepare lesson materials, bulletin board displays, exhibits, and equipment as assigned by the classroom teacher.
- Present subject matter and planned lessons to students in a group setting under the direction of the teacher.
- Supervise students in designated areas such as hallways, bathrooms, cafeterias, playgrounds, gyms, and during field trips.
- Monitor classroom students' performance and record relevant data daily to assess progress.
- Assist children individually or in small groups to help them master and reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers.
- Participate in parent-teacher conferences as appropriate.
- Assist in bus loading and unloading of students from transportation.
- Fulfill duties of a Behavior Technician as needed.
- Complete New Hire Competency Assessment process.
- Successfully pass safe crisis management training as required by the program.
- Perform other appropriate duties as assigned to meet programmatic needs.
Requirements
- Have completed at least 2 years of post-secondary study; or possess an associate degree or higher.
- 1 - 3 years relevant verifiable experience.
