About the position

The Classroom Art Teacher at Bob Hope School is responsible for providing students with engaging and appropriate learning activities that foster their intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. The teacher will develop lesson plans that align with the district's curriculum and accommodate various learning styles. This role requires a strong understanding of the subjects taught, as well as the ability to manage student behavior effectively. The teacher will work collaboratively with special education staff to modify the curriculum for students with Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and will utilize technology to enhance the learning experience. In addition to teaching responsibilities, the Classroom Art Teacher will conduct assessments to evaluate student learning and progress, and will be expected to maintain open communication with parents, students, and colleagues. The teacher will also participate in staff development activities to improve their skills and stay informed about state and district regulations. A positive role model for students, the teacher will create a classroom environment conducive to learning and will uphold the school's mission and policies. The position requires the teacher to manage classroom behavior according to the Student Code of Conduct, maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance, and participate in faculty meetings and committees. The teacher will also be responsible for extracurricular activities as assigned and will need to be available to students and parents outside of instructional hours when necessary. Overall, the Classroom Art Teacher plays a crucial role in shaping the educational experience of students at Bob Hope School.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district's curriculum program.
  • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
  • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
  • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curriculum as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  • Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aides(s) and volunteer(s).
  • Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
  • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the principal.
  • Create and maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social and emotional development of students.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Encourage students to meet acceptable standards of classroom behavior as defined in the Student Code of Conduct.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principal, and teachers.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned.
  • Knowledge of subjects assigned and general knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a Montessori or dual-language teaching environment.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
