Data Center Engineering Operations Technicians (EOT) are the front line responders for hands-on electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting and operation at Amazon Data Centers. This role involves working with a variety of equipment including stand-by diesel generators, electrical switchboards/switchgear, circuit breakers, UPSs, PDUs, AHUs, pumps, motors, VFDs, and building automation systems. Technicians provide 24/7 shift coverage, which may include 12-hour shifts, rotating shifts, and varying work weeks of 3, 4, or 5 days. The position requires the ability to work in extreme climates, at heights, and in noisy environments, as well as the physical capability to lift and move heavy objects and work in cramped spaces. The role demands a proactive approach to troubleshooting facility and rack-level events within internal service level agreements (SLAs). Technicians will perform limited maintenance tasks, including filter changes, HVAC preventive maintenance, and rack power installations. They will also be responsible for taking daily operational readings of all mechanical and electrical equipment, utilizing internal Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) to manage workflows and spare part inventory, and supervising contractors performing maintenance tasks. The position requires adherence to safety procedures and compliance with physical security policies, as well as the ability to respond to off-hour emergency calls as part of an on-call rotation. As part of a diverse team, technicians will collaborate with software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, and security experts to ensure the highest standards of safety and security while delivering optimal service to customers. The role offers opportunities for career advancement, including authoring technical procedures and participating in advanced qualifications and projects as the technician progresses within AWS.
