About the position

The Cleared Manager - Mechanical Design and Engineering at Sandia National Laboratories is responsible for leading a team of engineers and technologists in the development and implementation of innovative mechanical design solutions. This role involves overseeing the quality of mechanical and electro-mechanical designs, ensuring customer needs are met, and managing project deliverables, budgets, and schedules. The position requires a strong emphasis on staff development, collaboration across technical teams, and adherence to project standards.

Responsibilities

  • Direct a team of Engineers and Technologists in Mechanical Design.
  • Develop and implement strategies for innovative design solutions and high-quality mechanical design models.
  • Lead staff in interfacing across multiple technical teams and integrating multidisciplinary technology areas.
  • Manage and coordinate specific deliverables, budgets, schedules, and staffing requirements to satisfy customer needs.
  • Oversee the work of engineers and designers to ensure high-quality design products.
  • Collaborate with peers and partners across the Labs to fulfill commitments.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree and eight years of relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • An active DOE Q or DOD TS security clearance and the ability to obtain and maintain higher-level clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Two or more years of demonstrated leadership experience.
  • A graduate degree in science or engineering (MS or Ph.D.).
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills for developing trusting relationships with peers, staff, management, customers, and stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for presentations, proposals, reports, and documentation.
