About the position
The Cleared Senior Modeling and Simulation Engineer at MITRE is responsible for developing modeling, simulation, and analysis tools that integrate math, physics, engineering, and programming. This role is part of the Cross-cutting Urgent Innovation Cell (CUIC), focusing on delivering innovative solutions to national security challenges through rapid prototyping and collaboration. The position requires strong technical skills and the ability to work proactively in a team environment to address complex problems.
Responsibilities
- Develop modeling, simulation, and analysis tools at the intersection of math, physics, engineering, and programming.
- Generate and assess results from simulations and extract key lessons learned.
- Collaborate with team members to learn new techniques and approaches on-the-job.
- Conduct quantitative data analysis using various datasets.
- Debug models using programming tools and understand simulation results.
Requirements
- Active TS/SCI level security clearance.
- Minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 3 years with a Master's degree; or a PhD with relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Experience in developing physics-based modeling and simulation tools.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++, Java, Python, MATLAB, Mathematica, or Fortran.
- Experience in conducting quantitative data analysis.
Nice-to-haves
- Masters or PhD with research experience in physics, applied mathematics, aerospace, or mechanical engineering.
- Proficiency with modeling and simulation tools such as AFSIM, SEAS, or STORM.
- Familiarity with aerodynamic systems, orbital mechanics, signal processing, sensor systems, and RF or EO/IR physics.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- Desire to learn new techniques and approaches on-the-job.
