About the position

The Clerk III (Warrants) position at Comal County involves processing, reviewing, and researching warrants under the supervision of the Office Manager. The role requires effective communication with other agencies to assist in apprehending wanted individuals and providing support to law enforcement personnel. The position is essential for maintaining accurate records and ensuring the proper handling of warrants.

Responsibilities

  • Documents civil and criminal warrants received, including date stamping, entering them into the county database, processing, sending courtesy letters, and filing.
  • Enters warrants in TCIC/NCIC and validates warrants.
  • Researches and confirms warrant requests from other agencies.
  • Prepares paperwork for officers when an individual has been arrested or placed in jail, clears subject from county and state computer systems, and re-files warrant when another agency serves, verifying a detainer is in place.
  • Forwards out of county bond with a warrant to records division.
  • Processes and notates recall warrants and returns to the proper court.
  • Answers the telephone, assists callers, transfers calls, or takes messages as appropriate.
  • Communicates with other agencies to attempt to apprehend wanted individuals in other jurisdictions.
  • Serves as backup to the Administrative Assistant I when needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • One (1) year of clerical experience or any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions and duties.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
