About the position

The Clerk Retail Inventory Control position is responsible for managing the receipt of products from vendors, ensuring accuracy in invoicing, and maintaining inventory control. This role emphasizes customer service and requires effective communication with vendors and team members. The clerk will operate various equipment and maintain the organization and sanitation of the receiving and storage areas.

Responsibilities

  • Receives deliveries of products from DSD vendors and verifies accuracy of invoices.
  • Operates receiving system according to Company and Division policies.
  • Maintains a good rapport with vendors.
  • Champions Company and Division Legendary Customer Service programs to meet or exceed Division customer service goals.
  • Promotes Company's philosophy of personalized service.
  • Logs all deliveries into the computer and breaks down loads from DSD suppliers.
  • Transports products from receiving area to storage, freezer, cooler, or sales area.
  • Ensures cost, quality, and inventory controls through verifying orders against invoices.
  • Reconciles vendor invoices to costs on the computer system and inputs differences by item into the system.
  • Balances all receiving and transmits information to the general office for payment.
  • Maintains invoices and reports in the established filing system according to the record retention schedule.
  • Reviews and accepts only proper and correct orders submitted by outside sales representatives.
  • Daily reviews emails to communicate with the DSD Coordinator and retrieves vendor invoices.
  • Prevents shrink, damage, and spoilage of product.
  • Repairs and prices damaged product if saleable and discards or returns damaged product to appropriate vendor as required.
  • Responsible for the security, sanitation, and organization of the receiving, storage, and loading dock areas.
  • Performs training duties and operates related equipment such as hand trucks, power lifts, and pallet jacks.
  • May occasionally perform duties such as ordering, stocking, and pricing in the absence of dairy or frozen food clerks.

Requirements

  • Ability to be friendly, courteous, tactful, and maintain composure in dealing with customers, co-workers, and vendors.
  • Good interpersonal, organizational, and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to frequently reach, lift, stack, and maneuver objects of varying dimensions and weights up to approximately 80 lbs.
  • Ability to push and pull fully loaded hand trucks and pallet jacks.
  • Ability to operate related equipment such as power lifts and computer equipment.
  • Ability to stand for long periods, walk rapidly, bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently.
  • Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination are necessary.
  • Mental alertness is required to ensure safe, accurate completion of work activities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of basic mathematics.
  • Understanding of Company policies and procedures regarding receiving, ordering, stocking, merchandising, pricing, inventory control, and product warehousing/storage.
  • Product knowledge including seasonality and perishability.
