About the position

The WC Claims Specialist is responsible for managing a caseload of Workers' Compensation claims, ensuring effective communication and collaboration with various stakeholders to facilitate the return to work process for injured workers. This role involves processing medical and legal documents, explaining BWC laws and procedures to customers, and attending meetings and training sessions to stay updated on relevant policies and practices.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of Workers' Compensation claims.
  • Communicate, coordinate, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to set return to work expectations.
  • Attend statewide and local meetings, and complete required BWC specific and State of Ohio trainings.
  • Explain BWC laws, policies, procedures, and processes to customers.
  • Process medical and legal documents within prescribed timeframes, reviewing documentation and taking appropriate action.
  • Address subsequent requests by parties to claims via due process notification, investigation, and referrals.

Requirements

  • 36 months of experience working in a private insurance organization as a claims representative or equivalent position.
  • Successful completion of one typing course or demonstrate ability to type 35 words per minute.
  • Completion of undergraduate core coursework in business, humanities, social & behavioral science, education or related field.
  • 24 months of experience as a Workers' Compensation Claims Assistant or equivalent role.
  • 12 months of experience as a Workers' Compensation Medical Claims Specialist or equivalent role.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of workers' compensation laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Experience with medical terminology and medical diagnosis coding.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software and BWC-specific software.
