About the position

The Client Advisor for Small Business and Tax at H&R Block is responsible for applying accounting principles to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports. This role involves managing tax statements and returns for businesses and clients, providing financial and tax advice, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. The position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication to serve as a business advisor, aiming to maximize client engagement and achieve qualitative outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate and manage the preparation and review of company federal tax returns and ensure timely filing of all tax forms.
  • Ensure accurate and timely filing of consolidated federal, state, and local income tax returns and other business-related filings.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for process improvement in company tax procedures.
  • Develop and implement strategic tax planning for all necessary federal and state taxes.
  • Manage tax team members in preparing components of the company's US federal income tax return and other tax documents.
  • Plan and develop the overall return calendar, coordinating timing and inputs with the tax team.
  • Maintain effective control procedures over all aspects of the tax process.
  • Manage and facilitate IRS income tax audits, including preparing responses and creating schedules.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory tax law developments, communicate effects to management and the tax team, and create strategies to capitalize on changes to taxation legislation.
  • Provide support with various internal audits and special tax-related projects.
  • Review tax returns and quarterly/yearly tax projections.
  • Manage and mentor members of the tax team to enhance their effectiveness and engagement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and related work experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years related work experience.
  • Understanding and previous use of a Windows-based computer system.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated organization and prioritization skills; ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks/projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including oral and written communication.
  • Intermediate knowledge of integrated online accounting applications.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
