About the position

The Senior Client Advocate plays a critical role in assessing and supporting clients aged 55 and older who are in need of shelter services. This position involves conducting vulnerability screenings, managing referrals, and advocating for clients to access necessary resources. The advocate will work collaboratively with other team members to ensure clients receive timely and effective assistance, contributing to the overall mission of empowering individuals experiencing homelessness.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough screenings of clients to determine their vulnerability and suitability for shelter using standardized assessment tools.
  • Accept and process external referrals from partner organizations, community agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain and manage the senior shelter interest list, ensuring it is up-to-date and accurately reflects current needs and priorities.
  • Advocate for clients' needs and assist them in accessing appropriate resources and services.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of client assessments, referrals, and shelter placements.
  • Work closely with shelter staff, case managers, and other team members to ensure a coordinated and holistic approach to client support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, Human Services, or a related field; or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in client advocacy, case management, or a related role, preferably within a shelter or homeless services context.
  • State of Arizona Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Must pass drug screen (Must have medical card for positive results).
  • Intermediate to advanced level of proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook; highly accurate data entry skills.
  • CPR-First Aid certification and Naloxone (Narcan) training.
  • Strong understanding of issues related to homelessness, vulnerability assessment, and shelter services.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Proficiency in using standardized assessment tools and maintaining detailed records.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
