About the position

The Climate and Soil Health Operations Coordinator at American Farmland Trust (AFT) plays a crucial role in supporting the organization's national climate and soil health initiatives. This position focuses on administrative, financial, and logistical support to ensure smooth operations and facilitate impactful project outcomes across various Climate and Soil Health projects. The coordinator will work closely with the Deputy Director and various stakeholders to promote environmentally sound farming practices and enhance soil health resilience.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the review and submission of partner reports and invoices, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Facilitate logistics for project workstreams, including event coordination, scheduling, and payments.
  • Compile, organize, and process project-related materials and eligibility documents, following up with project partners as necessary.
  • Attend and document Climate and Soil Health division meetings, providing actionable summaries and follow-up items.
  • Support the team in progress reviews and program tracking, compiling and submitting regular internal program metrics as needed.
  • Support financial priorities by tracking invoices and payments, ensuring compliance with financial protocols across multiple projects.
  • Work with the Finance department to develop and implement standard operating procedures for large batch payments.
  • Prepare quarterly funder reports and other requested reporting, ensuring timeliness and accuracy.
  • Develop and distribute weekly project newsletters to stakeholders and partners, ensuring clear communication.
  • Engage with stakeholders to gather feedback and provide updates on project progress.

Requirements

  • 2-3 years of professional experience in operations coordination in environmental sustainability, agriculture, or a related field.
  • A bachelor's degree in business, finance, environmental science, agriculture, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Proven experience with invoicing and financial tracking.
  • Excellent organizational skills with a talent for translating intricate information into actionable steps.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, focusing on clarity and professionalism.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Broad knowledge of conservation agriculture practices including grazing systems, biochar, and row cropping.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage tasks with minimal oversight.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in project management or coordination in a non-profit environment.
  • Familiarity with climate change and soil health issues in agriculture.
