About the position

The Climate Communications Manager will lead the development and implementation of a climate communications and engagement strategy, collaborating closely with the sustainability, net zero transition, and government relations teams. This role is pivotal in positioning LyondellBasell (LYB) as a leader in climate action. The manager will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing the communications strategy across the department, serving as the subject matter expert for climate communications within the Center of Excellence. The position emphasizes that sustainability can drive value for the company. In this role, the manager will develop and implement a global climate communications strategy that aligns with LYB's sustainability communications strategy and its ambitions for circularity and low carbon solutions. They will act as a key client manager for various teams, including Net Zero Transition, Climate, Product Sustainability, and Circular and Low Carbon Solutions. A deep understanding of the sustainability approach, goals, and transition roadmap is essential to effectively communicate how these initiatives can create value for LYB. The Climate Communications Manager will also be responsible for executing a climate engagement strategy as part of the non-market strategy work, establishing LYB as a leader in climate action. This includes providing strategic communications counsel to relevant spokespeople in sustainability and advocacy, analyzing trends, and advising on best practices and channel selection. The role requires maintaining a strong focus on external engagement through various channels, including media, social, digital, and traditional avenues. Additionally, the manager will develop and deliver engaging content for target audiences, manage communications outcomes measurement, and collaborate with local and global teams to ensure alignment with communications priorities. They will also be responsible for internal communications to raise awareness of business strategy and progress regarding climate action and product sustainability. The role involves leading project management of key initiatives and organizing updates for senior leadership, including the Chief Sustainability Officer and the ESG team.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of a global climate communications strategy and plans.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for climate communications within the Center of Excellence.
  • Act as key client manager for Net Zero Transition, Climate, Product Sustainability, Circular and Low Carbon Solutions teams.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the sustainability approach, goals, and transition roadmap.

  • Lead project management of key projects and organize updates for senior leadership.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, public relations, or a related field is required.
  • At least 10+ years of experience in sustainability and/or climate communications-related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in corporate communications or with a corporate communications agency is preferred.
  • Effective communication skills across multiple formats and platforms.
  • Experience in change management and a growth mindset.
  • Ability to think strategically and manage projects independently.
  • Detail-oriented with strong prioritization skills.
  • Ability to influence and direct colleagues and manage stakeholder needs.
  • Ability to distill complex sustainability ideas into compelling narratives.
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to provide and receive feedback.
  • Mastery of Microsoft Office and project management tools; video editing software experience is a plus.
  • Proficiency in verbal and written English; additional languages are a plus.
