About the position

The Recovery from Addictions Program (RAP) operated by the Department of Mental Health (DMH) is seeking an experienced human services professional to function as Clinical Addiction & Recovery Team Leader, to assist with oversight of day-to-day activities of services and operations. The selected candidate will also provide direct social services, including casework, group work, assessment, intake and referral services for new clients including discharge and aftercare planning. The Team Leader will champion behaviors that recognize the human rights of clients. The selected candidate will work 40 hours on 1st shift, Monday through Friday, from 8:00AM to 4:30PM.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the overall oversight of the day-to-day unit function/operations, overall program development, and quality assurance.
  • Supervises, trains, and monitors assignments of staff, including milieu treatment group facilitation, individual casework, family work, and other relevant treatment models, referral services, and aftercare planning.
  • Facilitates Treatment Team meetings and provides oversight of the provision of direct care to clients (individual counseling, group facilitation, lecture, orientation for new patients and discharge, and aftercare planning and case management).
  • Supervises and monitors workloads to ensure appropriate service delivery for clients, participates in the hiring of staff, evaluates performance, and provides staff coverage during absences.
  • Provides clients with professional comprehensive interdisciplinary social services, including casework and service placements and relevant therapeutic models.
  • Provides consultation to community, public or private agencies; determines appropriate transition and discharge plans and identifies the availability and need for resources.
  • Ensures linkages are formed with aftercare services prior to discharge and aiding the clients and their family's access outpatient care when appropriate.
  • Conveys information and explains options to clients with varying expectations, needs, cultures, and languages, and assists them in determining the best methods or actions to be initiated on their behalf.
  • Assesses information of varying complexity from multiple sources to ascertain clinical and health care needs and necessary steps to provide services.
  • Assists with the development of a therapeutic group model and daily schedule, evaluation of the group curriculum as well as curriculum changes when necessary to enhance the treatment model.
  • Reviews and analyzes data, recommends performance improvement initiatives, and completes performance improvement projects.
  • Facilitates and participates in staff meetings, case conferences, educational workshops, mandatory trainings to enhance professional and personal growth; partakes in continued education in the field of substance abuse disorders and relevant courses.

Requirements

  • Ability to supervise, including setting limits and enforcing rules, policies and procedures.
  • Capacity to facilitate groups, lectures, and lead staff.
  • Demonstrated understanding of boundaries and ethics.
  • Understanding of the disease concept and evidence-based practices, current therapies and/or self-help programs used to treat addiction.
  • Skilled in recognizing the relationship between substance abuse and mental health issues including trauma and/or self-help programs.
  • Keen diagnostic, assessment skills and case management ability.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience working with clients with primary substance use disorders; knowledge of substance use and treatment systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional licensure in a human service field including but not limited to LCSW, LICSW, LMHC, License Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) or Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC).
  • Ability to demonstrate a positive, non-judgmental, and accepting attitude toward individuals with substance use disorder.
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational skills and superior attention to detail.
  • Given the population served, bilingual or multilingual fluency.
