About the position

The Clinical Assistant 2 - Nuclear Medicine Tech at Yale University is responsible for providing specialized technical support for PET and PET/CT imaging projects and experiments. This role involves patient care, administering radiopharmaceuticals, performing image reconstructions, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The position requires a strong focus on quality control, data analysis, and maintaining the operational efficiency of the PET Center.

Responsibilities

  • Correctly identify subjects before procedures and ensure informed consent is obtained.
  • Provide patient care, including venous access for radiopharmaceutical administration.
  • Ensure IV access remains patent during studies.
  • Administer the correct dose of radiopharmaceuticals and dispose of excess material properly.
  • Collect and process blood samples during procedures.
  • Perform image reconstructions and ensure timely processing.
  • Enter images into the PET database accurately.
  • Conduct data and image analysis and report results to supervisors.
  • Calibrate PET cameras and ancillary equipment daily.
  • Perform phantom studies for quality control and equipment testing.
  • Monitor PET imaging equipment and troubleshoot issues as needed.
  • Provide information and data to physicians and research staff regarding testing techniques and equipment operation.
  • Follow proper radiation safety practices and ensure compliance among staff.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the PET Center, including waste disposal.
  • Manage subject flow for maximum efficiency in the PET Center.
  • Cross-train in other areas of the PET Center as needed.
  • Order and maintain supply levels to prevent shortages.

Requirements

  • Six years of related work experience, four of which must be in the same job family at a lower level, and a high school diploma; or four years of related work experience and an Associate's degree; or a Bachelor's degree in a related field with little or no work experience; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform PET and PET/CT imaging and related tasks.
  • Graduate of an approved Nuclear Medicine Technology Program and an approved Radiologic Technology Program for Computed Tomography.
  • Ability to review and follow study documentation and standard operating procedures.
  • Skilled in performing quality control procedures on imaging equipment and identifying malfunctions.
  • Skilled in administering radioactive doses and maintaining accurate records.
  • Ability to follow radiation safety guidelines to limit exposure.

Nice-to-haves

  • Graduate of an approved Nuclear Medicine Technology Program and an approved Radiologic Technology Program for Computed Tomography.
