About the position

The Clinical Assistant role involves providing essential support to healthcare providers and clinical staff in delivering quality patient care. This position focuses on optimizing patient flow, managing referrals, and ensuring effective communication within the healthcare team. The Clinical Assistant is responsible for various administrative and clinical tasks that contribute to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of patient care services.

Responsibilities

  • Provides basic and direct care to patients as directed by a provider, nurse, or other clinical staff.
  • Coordinates patient care and communicates effectively with interdisciplinary team members.
  • Performs analytical tasks and charting related to patient information.
  • Facilitates quality patient care by optimizing patient flow and processing referrals.
  • Assists with patient empanelment and prior authorizations.
  • Participates in continuity of care activities such as patient calls and scheduling.
  • Communicates with patients regarding their schedules and referrals through various channels.
  • Utilizes customer service skills and maintains professional etiquette.
  • Documents referrals, patient interactions, and scheduling within the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Maintains office inventory and equipment, anticipating supply needs.
  • Performs clerical duties such as printing summaries and discharging patients from the system.
  • Obtains and records routine patient information, including vital signs.
  • Maintains a clean and safe environment for patients and staff.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • At least six months of experience in a related field.
  • Knowledge of database software, human resource systems, and payroll systems.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred but can be obtained during orientation.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and HIPAA regulations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to perform clinical services such as EKGs and processing laboratory specimens.
