About the position

The Clinical Care Assistant I position at Sanitas is an entry-level role focused on aiding in the examination and treatment of patients under the supervision of a physician or nurse. This role is designed for individuals with minimal experience in medical assisting, providing opportunities for on-the-job training and career advancement as certifications are obtained. The position requires flexibility, including some nights and weekends, to ensure comprehensive patient care in a clinical setting.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily patient flow in areas as needed.
  • Provide direct patient care and perform indirect patient care activities and laboratory tests under the direction of a physician or nurse.
  • Interview patients, measure vital signs, and record information on patient charts.
  • Greet and escort patients to the examination room while adhering to HIPAA regulations and maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Assist providers in assessing a comprehensive and accurate picture of the patient's health to facilitate informed decision-making and high-quality patient care.
  • Perform supervised procedures such as EKGs, vaccines, and medications via various methods, assisting in procedures/treatments as requested by the physician.
  • Conduct supervised lab work once signed off by a nurse or physician and prepare instrumental equipment for sterilization.
  • Perform basic laboratory tests and procedures, including phlebotomy and venipuncture for specimen collection.
  • Adhere to Nursing Department policies and procedures.
  • Process and handle tubes and specimens according to laboratory protocols.
  • Check equipment and supplies prior to use for function, inspection, and expiration date.
  • Maintain quality control and cleaning logs as needed for the department, reporting any malfunctions of medical equipment and safety issues to the supervisor.
  • Comply with Infection Control and OSHA Regulations regarding biomedical waste handling and disposal.
  • Direct patients to appropriate departments for continuum of care and help them understand available services to optimize their care and experience.
  • Complete pre-visit planning prior to patient visits, ensuring a complete review of all pertinent records.
  • Ensure timely processing of patient referrals and follow up to resolve outstanding requests, recommending the MySanitas app for referral options.
  • Review and resolve assigned telephone encounters within specified timeframes, including follow-up with patients as needed.
  • Handle and process various types of specimens with attention to proper collection, labeling, storage, and transportation techniques.
  • Maintain quality controls by performing QC tests and maintaining QC records.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a medical assistant training program or enrollment in Sanitas MA Apprenticeship Program.
  • One year of experience as a Medical Assistant, CNA, patient technician, or Home Health Aide.
  • BLS certification.
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Proficient in medical terminology.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in electronic medical records systems (eCW preferred), Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Previous experience working in a medical office setting.
  • Phlebotomy certification.
  • Experience in Pediatric care and knowledge of pediatric terminology.
