About the position

The Clinical Care Assistant I is an entry-level position within a global healthcare organization, responsible for assisting in the examination and treatment of patients under the supervision of a physician or nurse. This role offers on-the-job training and opportunities for advancement as certifications are obtained. The position requires flexibility, including some nights and weekends, to ensure quality patient care and support in various medical settings.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily patient flow in areas as needed.
  • Provide direct patient care and perform indirect patient care activities and laboratory tests under the direction of a physician or nurse.
  • Interview patients, measure vital signs, and record information on patient charts.
  • Greet and escort patients to the examination room while adhering to HIPAA regulations and maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Assist providers in assessing a comprehensive and accurate picture of the patient's health.
  • Perform supervised procedures such as EKG, vaccines, and medications, and assist in treatments as requested by the physician.
  • Conduct basic laboratory tests and procedures, including phlebotomy and venipuncture for specimen collection.
  • Maintain quality control and cleaning logs for medical equipment and report any malfunctions or safety issues to the supervisor.
  • Comply with Infection Control and OSHA Regulations regarding biomedical waste handling and disposal.
  • Help direct patients to appropriate departments for continuum of care and assist them in understanding available services.
  • Complete pre-visit planning and ensure a thorough review of all pertinent records prior to patient visits.
  • Ensure timely processing of patient referrals and follow up on outstanding requests.
  • Handle and process various types of specimens with proper techniques and attention to detail.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a medical assistant training program or equivalent experience in a healthcare field.
  • One year of experience as a Medical Assistant, CNA, patient technician, or Home Health Aide.
  • BLS certification is required.
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Proficient in medical terminology.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with electronic medical records systems (eCW preferred).
  • Previous experience in a medical office setting.
  • Phlebotomy certification.
  • Experience in pediatric care and knowledge of pediatric terminology.
