About the position

The Clinical Chaplain at UNC Health Care is responsible for providing high-quality pastoral care to patients, families, and staff, particularly in the context of burn care within the surgery/trauma service line. This role involves direct patient interaction, leading caregiver groups, participating in interdisciplinary rounds, and contributing to various committees. The chaplain will also mentor CPE residents, document patient encounters, and lead worship services as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one pastoral care to patients, family members, and staff in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Lead caregiver groups and participate in team and unit-based rounds.
  • Attend and contribute to departmental and institutional meetings such as the Ethics Committee and Palliative Care.
  • Document care provided and other activities appropriately.
  • Manage pastoral care provided by self and CPE interns/residents in defined clinical areas.
  • Develop pastoral care programs and educational outreach for specific patient populations.
  • Provide religious rites, rituals, and memorial services as appropriate.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Divinity (M.Div.) or equivalent from an accredited seminary or university.
  • Graduation from an accredited college and seminary with four (4) units of ACPE CPE, faith group endorsement.
  • Board eligible by the Association of Professional Chaplains, with certification to be obtained within two years of hire.
  • Prior pastoral experience in a hospital setting and/or congregation.
