About the position

The Clinical Counselor position at WestCare involves providing comprehensive programs related to substance abuse and mental health for clients. The role focuses on assessment, treatment planning, and delivering educational groups, while maintaining client confidentiality and documentation. The counselor will also support clients in developing self-help groups and provide supervision and coping skills for various addictions.

Responsibilities

  • Complete assessment of each client with required assessment tools.
  • Initiate and sustain each individual's motivation to participate in treatment using engagement techniques.
  • Develop a comprehensive service plan for each client that includes assessment results and treatment goals.
  • Provide daily treatment and curriculum-based education groups on various therapeutic concepts.
  • Assist clients in the development of self-help groups such as AA/NA.
  • Maintain individual client treatment files in accordance with agency policies.
  • Develop post-release plans for clients.
  • Provide general client supervision and plan therapeutic activities.
  • Provide coping skills for clients with gambling and other addictions.
  • Maintain confidentiality according to federal regulations.
  • Obtain signed releases of confidential information from clients.
  • Maintain thorough records of each client's participation and submit data weekly.
  • Attend required staff development training and in-service training.
  • Embrace and embody the mission and goals of WestCare Foundation.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Hold clinical certification as a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor or equivalent.
  • Must complete training as needed to obtain and maintain certification.
  • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, criminal justice, or related field is required.
  • Minimum of two years of experience with offender and dual diagnosed populations.
  • Knowledge of offender populations and substance abuse assessment tools is required.
  • Intake and assessment experience is preferred.
  • Must be highly organized and detail-focused with excellent time management skills.
  • Strong computer skills and excellent communication and interpersonal skills are necessary.
  • Ability to pass background check and pre-employment drug screening.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and adhere to ethical conduct standards.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual skills are preferred.
