About the position

The Clinical Data Engineer (Application Engineer) at OHSU is responsible for developing and maintaining data and analytics solutions that support the Mission Control unit. This role focuses on enhancing operational effectiveness, clinical quality, and research initiatives through data engineering and visualization. The position requires collaboration with clinical BI end users and team members to drive innovation and process improvement in a data-driven healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive data and analytics toolsets and interactive solutions for the OHSU Mission Control unit.
  • Design, develop, test, implement, and maintain data and analytics solutions.
  • Create dashboards and data visualizations using Microsoft Power BI and Tableau.
  • Perform ETL development using Epic's Caboodle Data Warehouse and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).
  • Execute SQL data extracts using T-SQL stored procedures and SSIS.
  • Develop views and stored procedures for reporting using Microsoft SQL Server and Epic data models.
  • Extract data using Epic Reporting Workbench (RWB) and the RWB extract framework.
  • Ensure all development adheres to OHSU BIAA data governance policies and SDLC practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, a related field, or a clinical field with six years of relevant experience; or an Associate's degree with seven years of experience; or eight years of relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of two years of experience as an Application Engineer or Developer developing data warehouse objects or data integration solutions.
  • Minimum of four years of SQL Server experience, including SSIS and T-SQL, coding, performance tuning, and system optimization.
  • Minimum of five years developing reports and dashboards.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a data warehouse environment.
  • Knowledge of data warehousing architecture and dimensional modeling concepts.
  • Ability to read, write, and maintain SQL code at an advanced skill level.
  • Proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with excellent attention to detail.
