About the position

The Clinical Dietitian 2 at the University of Miami Health System is responsible for promoting good dietary health and treating medical conditions through the development of personalized eating plans for patients. This role involves administering medical nutrition therapy, educating patients about nutrition, and collaborating with healthcare teams to enhance patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Meets directly with patients to identify nutritional needs.
  • Identifies ways to improve the care of patients and makes recommendations to appropriate staff.
  • Performs research and recommends ways to expand and improve nutrition programs.
  • Evaluates the effects of meal plans and revises the plans when appropriate.
  • Plans menus and inspects food to ensure portions adhere to set restrictions and dietary standards.
  • Assesses patients' nutritional status and develops individualized nutritional plans.
  • Relays appropriate information regarding patient care to the collaborating physician.
  • Assists in managing family dynamics and coping mechanisms during acute and chronic phases of patients' care.
  • Triages patients to determine the urgency of physician evaluation.
  • Documents and reports care in an accurate and timely fashion.
  • Collaborates with the development of educational materials.
  • Identifies and accounts for specific ethnic, cultural, and religious needs.
  • Responds to, resolves, and follows up regarding patient inquiries or concerns.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
  • Provides direct dietary consultation to patients and their families on required nutrition and modified diets.
  • Provides recommendations to the professional staff related to the nutritional aspects of patient care.
  • Provides nutrition lectures to patient groups and professionals as needed.
  • Serves on multi-disciplinary team for patient treatment planning.
  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of nutrition documentation records and procedure manuals.
  • Develops nutritional educational materials at a basic literacy level to utilize with patients and families.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field.
  • Certification and Licensing in relevant specialty or field.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
