About the position

The Clinical Dietitian position at Houston Methodist is an entry-level role responsible for implementing nutritional care in accordance with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics' standards. This role involves providing medical nutrition therapy, nutrition education, and collaborating with an interprofessional healthcare team to ensure optimal patient outcomes and safety. The Clinical Dietitian will also monitor and reassess nutrition care plans and contribute to quality improvement initiatives within the department.

Responsibilities

  • Implement nutritional care according to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Nutrition Care Process (NCP).
  • Conduct Nutrition Focused Physical Assessments (NFPA) to identify malnutrition in patients.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to document malnutrition accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Participate in care coordination rounds and communicate pertinent patient care information.
  • Provide nutrition education and counseling to patients and families.
  • Monitor and reassess nutrition care plans and recommend adjunctive services as needed.
  • Complete quality monitors to ensure continuity of care and evaluate outcomes.
  • Manage patient assignments and ensure timely and accurate documentation of care provided.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an education program approved by the credentialing body for required credentials.
  • Completion of a dietetic internship accredited by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
  • Completion of supervised practice hours as per Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) requirements.
  • Registered Dietician (RD) certification by the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
  • State licensure as a Dietitian (LD) in Texas or obtain within 60 days.
