Responsibilities

  • Completes nutritional assessments of patients and determines nutrition diagnosis and prescription.
  • Initiates interventions and documents outcomes of interventions.
  • Screens patients for nutritional risk according to established protocols.
  • Plans and initiates medical nutrition therapy, including complex enteral and parenteral nutrition support.
  • Establishes evidence-based nutritional care plans and communicates them to the healthcare team.
  • Provides nutrition counseling and education to patients and families.
  • Evaluates and counsels patients on nutrition-related pharmacotherapy and dietary supplements.
  • Updates client education materials and provides in-services to healthcare professionals.
  • Participates in the education and training of dietetic interns and other students.
  • Maintains accurate records of clinical activities and documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in dietetics, foods and nutrition, or related area (Required).
  • Master's Degree in dietetics, foods and nutrition, or related area (Preferred).
  • At least six months of pediatric medical nutrition therapy experience (Preferred).
  • Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) certification within 6 months (Required).
  • Licensed Dietitian-Nutrition (LDN) in Pennsylvania within 6 months (Required).
  • Knowledge of medical nutrition therapy for pediatric patients (Required proficiency).
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills (Required proficiency).
  • Ability to function independently on assigned patient care units (Required proficiency).
  • Ability to perform complex mathematical equations related to medical nutrition therapy (Required proficiency).
  • General knowledge of nutrient analysis and word processing software (Required proficiency).

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with nutritional content and use of commercial supplements and enteral formulas.
