About the position

The Clinical Dietitian at UNC Health plays a vital role in providing evidence-based medical nutrition therapy in collaboration with a multidisciplinary healthcare team. This position focuses on assessing patients' nutritional needs, developing and implementing nutrition care plans, and ensuring compliance with healthcare standards. The Clinical Dietitian also engages in community nutrition programs and contributes to the training of interns and new dietitians, ensuring high-quality nutrition care is delivered to patients.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses nutritional needs using standardized practice and critical thinking.
  • Acts as a resource person for the specialty team assigned and serves as a liaison between other medical specialties and ancillary services.
  • Assists in achieving compliance with accrediting agency standards to improve safety and quality of care.
  • Attends medical rounds, patient care conferences, and continuing education/staff meetings.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors nutrition care plans and participates in the discharge planning process.
  • May lead, direct, and manage the work assigned to others within the department.
  • Participates in the training of clinical nutrition intern students by acting as preceptors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a US regionally accredited university or college in Nutrition or a related field.
  • Completion of a Coordinated Program in Dietetics or Dietetic Internship accredited by ACEND.
  • Registered Dietitian (RD) certification by The Commission of Dietetic Registration (CDR).
  • Licensed as a Dietitian/Nutritionist (LDN) by the North Carolina Board of Dietetics and Nutrition.
  • Knowledge of the Nutrition Care Process and ability to apply all steps of the process.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in a related Dietitian field for new graduates becoming licensed after 1/1/2024.
  • Two years of experience as a clinical dietitian in a cardiac rehabilitation program or outpatient cardiology clinic.
