About the position

The Clinical Documentation Specialist (CDS) at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission plays a crucial role within the Quality Management department, focusing on enhancing the accuracy and integrity of clinical documentation. This position is essential for ensuring that healthcare providers, including physicians, maintain precise documentation that reflects the appropriate clinical picture and level of severity for patients. The CDS collaborates closely with healthcare providers to facilitate modifications in clinical documentation, ensuring that it accurately represents the care provided to patients. This role also involves working with Health Information Management (HIM) inpatient coding staff to clarify documentation, which is vital for the correct assignment of Medicare Severity Diagnosis Related Groups (MSDRG) that reflect patient severity of illness and resource consumption. In addition to documentation support, the CDS is responsible for identifying opportunities to improve the integrity of healthcare documentation across the organization. This includes utilizing Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) software to document work products that align with departmental goals and the broader objectives of AdventHealth Shawnee Mission. The CDS will also analyze data and develop reports to assist in the review and analysis of documentation practices, ultimately contributing to the continuous improvement of clinical documentation processes and workflows within the department. The position is full-time, with a standard schedule from Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, totaling 40 hours per week. Responsibilities

  • Assist physicians and healthcare providers in accurate clinical documentation.
  • Facilitate modifications to clinical documentation to support the appropriate clinical picture and level of severity for patients.

Requirements

  • Kansas Registered Nurse License
  • Associate's Degree; Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • 1 to 2 years of position-related experience
  • RN clinical experience
