About the position

Provides clinical and administrative support to staff, patients, and administrators relating to the Nicklaus Children's Health System's lifecycle management of advanced imaging of radiological and other medical devices. Applies engineering and mechanical concepts and methodology to provide lifecycle management and technical support of diagnostic, therapeutic devices, monitoring, and other equipment utilized in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Maintains advanced imaging or radiological devices such as CT Scans, MRIs, Cath Lab Equipment and other medical equipment using established local, regional and national policies and procedures designed to meet criteria and standards from multiple accrediting agencies and governing bodies.

Responsibilities

  • Completes routine and complex assignments in the installation, maintenance, modification, troubleshooting, repair and calibration of complex medical imaging devices and systems.
  • Performs advanced testing and troubleshooting of advanced imaging or radiological devices.
  • Troubleshoots and maintains radiology information systems and interfaces with Cerner EMR alongside Clinical Engineer (Systems Integration) team, PACS Administrators, and other subject matter experts.
  • Applies basic networking principles to resolve medical system communication issues including, but not limited to, node to server failures. Loads operating system (OS) and clinical application software as needed.
  • Documents all work performed in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS). Ensures documentation is completed in accordance with regulatory body requirements and the clinical engineering department policies and guidelines.
  • Participates in a rotating on-call schedule to respond to medical device/system end-user issues and device/system downtimes in a 24/7/365 environment.
  • Performs rounds in assigned areas to ensure imaging equipment areas are organized and equipment is in proper working order.
  • Juggles multiple medical device/system issues requiring adequate response, delegation, prioritization, or escalation.
  • Assigns and coordinates services performed by vendors (inspections, scheduled maintenance, corrective maintenance, overhauls, upgrades, etc.).
  • Ensures all vendor services are performed in a proper, timely manner, and services are properly documented.
  • Reviews outcome of preventive maintenance actions and makes recommendations concerning changes to preventative maintenance schedules, procedures, or documentation.
  • Orders items and maintains appropriate inventory of critical components to service and/or troubleshoot the medical equipment, and prepares justification for the acquisition of tools and resources.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in Biomedical Electronics Technology, Biomedical Equipment Technology, Biomedical Engineering Technology or in a related technical field such as Electronic Technology, Information Technology (OR) Completion of a military training program in biomedical equipment (OR) 5 years of medical imaging experience (Required)
  • 4 years of experience providing medical imaging equipment support with proven knowledge record of medical imaging equipment maintenance and repair processes.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certification as a Certified Radiology Equipment Specialist (CRES) is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of various imaging systems (radiographic, fluoroscopic, c-arm, computerized tomography, magnetic resonance, diagnostic ultrasound, mammography, nuclear medicine, teleradiology, etc.)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of imaging techniques, technologies, radiological practices and procedures.
