About the position

The Clinical Exercise Physiologist plays a crucial role in the healthcare team by providing evidence-based exercise therapy tailored to meet the medical goals of patients. This position involves assessing patient needs, developing and implementing exercise prescriptions, monitoring patient progress, and educating patients on safe exercise practices. The Clinical Exercise Physiologist collaborates with other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care and participates in quality improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses exercise therapy needs using standardized practice and critical thinking, conducts exercise testing, and collaborates with the healthcare team to resolve medical issues.
  • Develops and implements exercise prescriptions based on individual patient needs, monitors and modifies treatment plans, and participates in reassessments and discharge planning.
  • Educates patients on exercise program orientation, safe equipment use, and recognition of concerning symptoms, while providing information on disease management and behavior modification.
  • Documents all aspects of exercise therapy in medical records and ensures compliance with regulatory standards, effectively communicating with healthcare providers and patients.
  • Assists in achieving compliance with accrediting agency standards and participates in quality performance improvement efforts.
  • Attends staff meetings and continuing education opportunities, participates in quality improvement initiatives, and acts as a resource for community-based exercise programs.
  • Participates in training clinical exercise physiology students and orienting new staff members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a related field.
  • Master's degree in Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a related field preferred.
  • Completion of a clinical internship preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support preferred.
  • Clinical Exercise Physiologist (ACSM-CEP) certification required within twelve months of hire.
  • One year of experience in a clinical exercise setting, or no minimum clinical experience required with a Master's degree.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in patient monitoring.
  • Strong communication skills in both written and verbal forms.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to manage time effectively and meet operational timelines.
