About the position

The Medical Scribe at Oak Street Health plays a crucial role in supporting primary care providers by managing clinical documentation, allowing them to focus on delivering exceptional patient care. This position involves real-time documentation of patient encounters, assisting with clinical workflows, and contributing to the overall efficiency of the care team. The role is ideal for individuals pursuing careers in healthcare, particularly those on a pre-med track or interested in health informatics and related fields.

Responsibilities

  • Documenting patient encounters in a structured note, including the history of the present illness, assessment, plan, and physical exam.
  • Assigning appropriate CPT and ICD-10 codes.
  • Preparing After Visit Summaries.
  • Requesting and reviewing medical records to support clinical documentation improvement.
  • Leveraging population health tools to enhance clinical documentation.
  • Preparing for and supporting Daily Huddles and Clinical Documentation Reviews.
  • Placing orders and referrals as needed.
  • Addressing administrative tasks and supporting the care team with additional responsibilities related to clinical documentation.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and common medications from a pre-medical degree or prior clinical experience.
  • Advanced listening and communication skills.
  • Strong computer literacy and ability to learn new technical workflows.
  • Ability to adapt to new workflows and quickly learn new concepts and skills.
  • Ability to type 70+ words per minute.
  • Ability to commit to at least 1 year in role (2+ years is ideal).
  • US work authorization.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior clinical experience, including shadowing and/or volunteering.
  • Prior scribe or transcription experience.
  • Fluency in Spanish, Polish, Russian, or other languages spoken by the communities served.
