About the position

Nemours is seeking a Clinical Lab Lead Medical Technologist (Generalist) to join our Nemours Children's Health team in Orlando, Florida. Located in Orlando, Fla., Nemours Children's Hospital is the newest addition to the Nemours integrated healthcare system. Our 130-bed pediatric hospital also features the area's only 24-hour Emergency Department designed just for kids as well as outpatient pediatric clinics including several specialties previously unavailable in the region. A hospital designed by families for families, Nemours Children's Hospital blends the healing power of nature with the latest in healthcare innovation to deliver world-class care to the children of Central Florida and beyond. In keeping with our goal of bringing Nemours care into the communities we serve, we also provide specialty outpatient care in several clinics located throughout. This position plays a key role in maintaining the quality, accuracy, and efficiency of laboratory processes, ensuring seamless workflow and team coordination during off-peak hours.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight for laboratory operations during evening and night shifts.
  • Ensure timely and accurate testing, reporting, and workflow management.
  • Coordinate team activities, troubleshoot technical issues, and act as the point of contact for staff support.
  • Collaborate with laboratory management, laboratory personnel, and departments outside of the laboratory to optimize patient care and laboratory efficiency.
  • Perform a variety of analytical procedures of moderate to high complexity, using manual and automated methods.
  • Perform all required calibration, quality control, statistical calculations and other process control and mathematical functions.
  • Understand concepts such as linearity and standard deviation as it applies to analytical testing.
  • Routinely perform a range of clinical analysis in the molecular department using various methodologies and instrumentation.
  • Assist in the development and validation of various complex tests for implementation in the clinical pathology departments.
  • Help with administrative duties including writing and maintaining procedures, completing proficiency testing, and maintaining supply inventory.
  • Order, accession, status, and report results of tests performed on patient specimens.
  • Monitor critical clinical issues such as patient identifiers, specimen quality, and order appropriateness.
  • Use, calibrate, and perform troubleshooting and maintenance on laboratory equipment.
  • Review technical and administrative procedures as assigned.
  • Handle supply and inventory issues as required/assigned.
  • Follow all laboratory and hospital safety policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Lab program or Science related program required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years experience required; Five (5) + years experience preferred.
  • Florida Technologist License in all sections of laboratory (Chemistry, Hematology, Immunology/Serology, and Immunohematology) required.
  • Florida Microbiology License preferred.
  • Florida Technologist License in Molecular Pathology preferred.
  • Nationally/Internationally recognized certification as a Medical Technologist or equivalent (ASCP, AAB or AMT) required.
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and varying hours as required.
