About the position

The Clinical Lab Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the laboratory, ensuring both scientific and administrative efficiency. This role includes managing laboratory staff, maintaining equipment, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, all while contributing to the overall mission of improving health outcomes through quality laboratory services.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate daily operations of the laboratory.
  • Operate, maintain, and repair clinical laboratory equipment.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance, calibrations, and safety checks.
  • Oversee and review weekly and monthly Quality Control activities.
  • Manage staff responsibilities and prioritize tasks and resources.
  • Direct staff to meet departmental key process improvements (KPIs).
  • Troubleshoot instrumentation and investigate atypical results.
  • Implement departmental goals and fiscal policies.
  • Assist in strategic planning and financial projections.
  • Initiate and implement plans for greater efficiency and quality in the laboratory.
  • Maintain and monitor accreditation and inspection standards.
  • Coordinate inventory monitoring and ordering of supplies.
  • Manage staff including interviewing, performance management, and coaching.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent and relevant formal academic/vocational qualification.
  • 5+ years of previous experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
  • 1+ year of leadership responsibility.
  • Knowledge of CAP/CLIA regulations and method development/validation preferred.
  • Knowledge of personnel and fiscal management.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent critical thinking and decision-making skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage time effectively.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous Hematology lab management experience strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with analytical instrumentation.
