The Lab Supervisor is responsible for supervising the technical and operational day-to-day activities of the laboratory section assigned. This includes supervising staff of an individual lab section ensuring all work performed in the section is accurate and completed within established or agreed upon turn-around times and in accordance with all policies and procedures. The Lab Supervisor drafts procedures and protocols as directed and works with directors and managers to establish and implement technical and departmental procedures. Additionally, the Lab Supervisor participates in quality improvement initiatives and serves as the department representative to clinical programs as assigned by the manager. They orient new employees and assure completion of all training, competency assessments, and mandatory education. Under the guidance of the medical director and laboratory manager, the Lab Supervisor monitors the testing program of the laboratory to ensure the highest quality of testing and the highest level of customer service. The Lab Supervisor leads individuals in work groups to continuously improve performance by creating an environment that assures application of quality principles and techniques to achieve desired outcomes. They interview and recommend the selection of suitable candidates for employment and ensure compliance with regulatory standards, laws, and requirements of requisite agencies by employing appropriate systems and processes. The Lab Supervisor consistently administers the established criteria and processes for evaluation, promotion, and termination of all staff within their designated area of responsibility. They also supervise the section's participation in studies, research, publications, and public presentations, and may coordinate with area schools and universities for clinical rotations and training of students.
