About the position

The Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) or Medical Technologist (MT) is responsible for performing a variety of laboratory tests on blood and body fluid specimens. This role ensures accurate test results through adherence to quality control procedures and involves working in various laboratory areas. The CLS/MT will also train new staff, communicate results to medical personnel, and maintain compliance with regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Perform Moderate and High Complexity Testing on blood and all types of body fluid specimens.
  • Work in various areas of the Laboratory (i.e. Chemistry, Hematology, Blood Bank, Microbiology, etc.).
  • Ensure accurate and reliable test results by adhering to instrument maintenance, calibration, and quality control procedures.
  • Properly use Laboratory Information System (LIS).
  • Maintain records and statistical data according to regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with phlebotomy and other hospital staff to ensure proper collection of patient samples.
  • Troubleshoot problems with laboratory equipment, test methods, and sample collection.
  • Train new employees and students on laboratory methods, instruments, and policies.
  • Communicate patient results and/or problems to Medical or Nursing Staff.
  • Provide good customer service and communication skills.
  • Work under pressure of emergency situations.
  • Perform other duties assigned by Supervisor or Laboratory Director.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in Medical Laboratory Science or one of the biological or chemical sciences.
  • Laboratory training through an accredited laboratory program preferred.
  • One to two years' experience working in an accredited laboratory preferred, although new graduates will be considered.
  • Certification as a laboratory professional by ASCP, AMT, NCA, or HEW preferred.
