About the position

The Clinical Laboratory Scientist (Medical Technologist) position at the Department of Justice involves performing clinical laboratory testing in a Federal Bureau of Prisons correctional facility. The role requires a comprehensive understanding of various laboratory disciplines and methodologies, ensuring accurate analysis of human blood, tissues, and body fluids while maintaining the security of the institution.

Responsibilities

• Perform all clinical laboratory testing in a correctional facility.
• Function as a generalist in all disciplines of the clinical laboratory including hematology, blood bank, coagulation, serology, urinalysis, microbiology, and chemistry.
• Maintain security of the institution as a primary responsibility.
• Consult with physicians and medical staff regarding patient laboratory results.
• Conduct quality control procedures on laboratory equipment and reagents.
• Establish and write laboratory procedures as required by accreditation bodies.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship is required.
• A Bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited college/university with courses in biological science, chemistry, and mathematics.
• Successful completion of a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Clinical Laboratory Scientist program accredited by NAACLS.
• Certification/licensure as a medical technologist (generalist) from a recognized credentialing agency.
• One year of graduate-level education or superior academic achievement for GL-07.
• Two years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree for GL-09.
• At least 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in federal service.
