About the position

The Clinical Laboratory Scientist position at Adventist Health Glendale involves performing a variety of clinical laboratory tests on biological specimens, ensuring accurate results while adhering to safety protocols and patient confidentiality. The role includes training and supervising laboratory staff and maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritize and perform a wide variety of clinical laboratory tests on various biological specimens.
  • Review, evaluate, document, and report results of laboratory tests.
  • Preserve confidentiality of patients and follow lab safety and maintenance protocols.
  • Train and supervise trainees, laboratory assistants, and clerks as needed.
  • Employ positive patient identification procedures to ensure specimen integrity.
  • Perform proper specimen collection, labeling, handling, preservation, processing, and storage.
  • Adhere to HIPAA and other patient confidentiality guidelines and regulations.
  • Prioritize lab orders and perform various testing following quality assurance policies.
  • Perform, evaluate, and document quality control checks.
  • Review and evaluate the validity and accuracy of test results, recognizing interdependencies and physiological conditions affecting results.
  • Correlate test results with diagnoses and communicate critical values to appropriate clinicians.
  • Dispose of contaminated materials and maintain a clean work area after each test.
  • Perform equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration as needed.
  • Inventory and restock reagents, calibrators, controls, and supplies as needed.
  • Participate in data collection for Performance Improvement evaluations.
  • Document adverse events using incident reporting tools.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, biological sciences, chemical sciences, or allied health technologies or equivalent.
  • Valid Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) license in the state of employment (required in CA).
  • Current certification from American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or National Credentialing Agency for Labs (NCA) is preferred.
  • Clinical laboratory experience is preferred.
