About The Position

The Clinical Laboratory Scientist performs comprehensive testing across various laboratory disciplines, including Hematology, Microbiology, Clinical Chemistry, and more, to provide critical data for patient diagnosis. This role involves executing pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical testing phases while ensuring compliance with established standards and maintaining patient confidentiality. The position requires a high level of proficiency and the ability to work independently, as well as the capacity to instruct and guide new staff and students in laboratory procedures.

Requirements

  • High School Education or General Education Development (GED) required.
  • Clinical Laboratory Scientist License (California) required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of clinical laboratory principles and methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Upholds Kaiser Permanente's Policies and Procedures and applicable laws.
  • Provides high-level patient care and maintains confidentiality of test results.
  • Performs and reports test results for all clinical laboratory procedures without immediate review.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in clinical laboratory procedures with minimal supervision.
  • Monitors test data, quality control, quality assurance, and preventive maintenance.
  • Notifies supervisory team of any irregularities affecting test results.
  • Troubleshoots equipment and test methods, resolving unusual laboratory situations.
  • Consults with healthcare professionals on methodologies and test interpretations.
  • Instructs new employees and CLS students in laboratory procedures.
  • Provides training and guidance to Laboratory Assistants and support staff.
  • Participates in departmental work groups to address problems and goals.
  • Assists in evaluating new test procedures and communicates possibilities for implementation.
  • Maintains safety protocols in the laboratory and monitors supplies and reagents.
  • May perform clerical duties and assist in phlebotomy as needed.
  • Operates computerized laboratory data systems and applications.
  • Participates in direct patient care by providing information and collecting samples.
