About the position

Under the direction of the Laboratory Director, the position involves performing and documenting testing and associated quality control and preventative maintenance activities in all areas of the laboratory, including Hematology, Coagulation, Chemistry, Transfusion Services, Immunology, Clinical Microscopy (urinalysis), and Bacteriology. The role may also include specific departmental technical supervision regarding maintaining inventory control, assisting in compliance with accreditation standards, training new employees, and submitting quality control reports for review. Participation in team activities and quality improvement is essential, ensuring that quality care is provided efficiently and safely. The position requires flexibility to changing systems and the ability to treat staff, physicians, patients, and families with consideration and respect. Interpreting data about the patient's status to identify each patient's age-specific needs and providing the necessary care is also a key responsibility. Other related responsibilities may be assigned, and the ability to work well under stress or tight deadlines is crucial. Collaboration with supervisors, co-workers, patients/residents, family members, and visitors is expected.

Requirements

  • Any combination of training, education, and work experience deemed adequate by the State of California for issuance of a Clinical Laboratory Scientist license.
  • Minimum work experience demonstrating the ability to satisfactorily perform the responsibilities and duties of the position.
  • Must possess a valid California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, coworkers, hospital and medical staff.
  • Adequate phlebotomy skills.
  • Ability to cope with stressful situations regularly.
  • Ability to work without close supervision and rapidly while maintaining quality.
  • Ability to prioritize activities as appropriate.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good judgment, initiative, emotional stability, tact, and poise.
