About the position

The Clinical Laboratory Technologist - Level 2 (Hematology) position at NYC Health + Hospitals involves performing and assessing clinical laboratory tests on specimens for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. The role requires independent work under general direction, ensuring timely and accurate laboratory operations while adhering to established policies and procedures. The technologist will be responsible for laboratory setup, specimen preparation and testing, interpretation and recording of results, quality control, inventory management, and technical development.

Responsibilities

• Process Chemistry specimens from pre- to post-analytical phase.
• Review labels and requisition forms for accuracy of data.
• Centrifuge and aliquot specimens according to protocol.
• Accurately enter information into EMR and identify 'STAT' requests.
• Perform manual and automated tests on blood, urine, and body fluids according to established procedures.
• Analyze, interpret, and report test results accurately.
• Monitor testing equipment and solutions following laboratory Quality Control procedures.
• Assist with inventory management and inform supervisors when inventory is low.
• Demonstrate adaptability to changes in schedule and work conditions.
• Participate in continuing education courses and maintain technical expertise.

Requirements

• Valid license as a clinical laboratory technologist, cytotechnologist, or histotechnologist issued by the NYSED.
• Experience in performing clinical laboratory tests and procedures.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in hematology or related laboratory specialty.
• Knowledge of laboratory information systems and EMR.
