About the position

The Clinical/Medical Laboratory Scientist at Ochsner Health is responsible for receiving and preparing specimens, performing laboratory tests, and ensuring quality control in a clinical setting. This role plays a crucial part in diagnosing and treating diseases by providing accurate laboratory data. The position requires adherence to safety and regulatory compliance guidelines while maintaining patient confidentiality and participating in performance improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Receive and prepare specimens according to standard protocols and procedures.
• Perform laboratory tests and calculations to provide data for diagnosis and treatment of disease.
• Conduct quality control procedures and evaluate test performance and results.
• Calibrate, maintain, and monitor equipment used in analytical determinations.
• Perform phlebotomy procedures as appropriate.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient-related information.
• Adhere to regulatory compliance guidelines and maintain awareness of accreditation standards.
• Participate in performance improvement opportunities by assisting in data collection and analysis.
• Manage supply and reagent inventory to support business development and cost reduction initiatives.

Requirements

• Associate's degree in medical technology, medical laboratory science, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical or biological science.
• Current license in the state of practice (if applicable).
• ASCP, AMT or AAB certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist.
