About the position

This position is designed for graduate students pursuing a Clinical Mental Health Counseling degree accredited by CACREP. The role offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience under the direct supervision of a Doctoral Level Licensed Professional Counselor and Counselor Educator. It is important to note that Social Work students cannot be accepted due to the absence of an LCSW supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct individual, group, or family counseling sessions under the direct supervision of a licensed counselor.
  • Assist clients in addressing personal, social, educational, and vocational issues.
  • Administer and interpret assessments to aid in the diagnosis and treatment planning process.
  • Develop treatment plans in collaboration with supervising counselor and clients.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential client records, including progress notes, treatment plans, and any other necessary documentation.
  • Coordinate services with other professionals as needed.
  • Participate in supervision sessions with a licensed counselor to discuss cases, receive feedback, and enhance clinical skills.
  • Attend relevant training sessions, workshops, and seminars to further professional growth.
  • Adhere to ethical standards and guidelines set forth by CACREP, ACA, and relevant state laws and regulations.
  • Collaborate with other members of the counseling team to provide comprehensive care to clients.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, families, and external stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Enrollment in a graduate program accredited by CACREP, pursuing a degree in counseling.
  • Completion of required prerequisite coursework, which includes various counseling-related subjects.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish rapport with diverse populations.
  • Knowledge of counseling theories, techniques, and best clinical practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines per the ACA code of ethics.
  • Reliable transportation to and from the counseling site.
