About the position
The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Emergency Department at Albany Medical Center is responsible for assessing, coordinating, planning, directing, implementing, and managing patient care throughout their episode of care. This role focuses on ensuring competent and compassionate care is delivered uniformly to patients, families, and referring facilities, particularly during transitions within the acute care stay. The RN will work in a fast-paced Level I Trauma Center environment, providing primary and emergency care for a diverse patient population.
Responsibilities
- Implements physician orders and administers medications.
- Starts IVs and performs treatments, procedures, and special tests.
- Documents treatment as required by company policy and regulations.
- Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to assess patients' conditions.
- Assesses and evaluates patient needs and responses to care.
- Applies sound nursing judgment in patient care management decisions.
- Provides primary and emergency care for occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses.
- Collaborates with the nursing team to create a Plan of Care for all patients.
- Directs and guides ancillary personnel and maintains standards of professional nursing.
Requirements
- Graduate of a professional academic nursing program (Diploma, Associate Degree, or Baccalaureate Degree).
- Current NYS Registered Nurse license.
- Certification in BLS/ACLS/PALS/TNCC.
- 1-3 years of clinical nursing experience in an Emergency Department, preferably in a Level 1 Trauma Center.
- Ability to improve job performance through continuing education.
- Knowledge of quality concepts and principles.
