About the position

The Registered Professional Nurse in the Colorectal Surgery and Urology Unit is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to post-operative patients. This role involves assessing, coordinating, and managing patient needs throughout their care episode, with a focus on facilitating progress toward discharge. The nurse will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure competent and compassionate care is delivered uniformly across various settings.

Responsibilities

  • Implements physician orders and administers medications.
  • Starts IVs and performs treatments, procedures, and special tests.
  • Documents treatment as required by company policy and regulations.
  • Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to assess patients' conditions.
  • Assesses and evaluates patient needs and responses to care.
  • Applies sound nursing judgment in patient care management decisions.
  • Provides primary and emergency care for occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses.
  • Administers over-the-counter and prescription medications as ordered.
  • Collaborates with the nursing team to create a Plan of Care for all patients.
  • Directs and guides ancillary personnel and maintains standards of professional nursing.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a professional academic nursing program (Diploma, Associate Degree, or Baccalaureate Degree).
  • Current NYS Registered Nurse license.
  • Certification in BLS/ACLS/PALS/TNCC.
  • 1-3 years of previous clinical nursing experience in an Emergency Department, preferably in a large academic, Level 1 Trauma Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center.
  • Ability to improve job performance through continuing education.
  • Knowledge of quality concepts, principles, and problem-solving tools.
