About the position

As part of the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) at Hoag Memorial Hospital, Newport Beach, you'll give direct inpatient nursing care as per the California Nurse Practice Act, and in support of the mission of the Patient Care Services Division. Being a Hoag Clinical Nurse I means serving our community by using research and evidence-based outcomes, and collaborating with members of your team to offer the highest level of care to those who depend on us. Inside Hoag's CCU, our CCU features 12 beds and has a nurse to patient ratio of 1:1 or 1:2. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure the delivery of safe, timely, and appropriate quality care to patients ranging from adult to geriatric, with acute cardiac medical and/or cardiac surgical diagnoses, and other medical/surgical diagnoses. You may be required to use a range of interventions such as: endotracheal intubation, ventilatory support, invasive pressure monitoring, tracheostomies, thrombolytic therapy, cardioversions, hemofiltration, peritoneal dialysis, atrial and ventricular overdrive pacing, intra-aortic balloon pumping, insertion of pulmonary artery and transvenous pacing catheters, chest tubes, pericardial catheters, arterial lines, bronchoscopy and Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT).

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct inpatient nursing care in the Coronary Care Unit (CCU).
  • Ensure the delivery of safe, timely, and appropriate quality care to patients with acute cardiac medical and/or surgical diagnoses.
  • Use a range of interventions such as endotracheal intubation, ventilatory support, and invasive pressure monitoring.
  • Provide care for patients requiring hemodynamic monitoring and vasopressor therapy.
  • Demonstrate skill in the use of specialized equipment and devices pertinent to treatment, procedures, and practices.
  • Prepare and assist with invasive procedures.
  • Identify, assess, and intervene for patients experiencing complex cardiac dysrhythmias.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement processes and maintain knowledge of departmental and hospital standards.

Requirements

  • Active California RN License.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Minimum of one (1) year Critical Care experience in an acute care facility.
  • Successful completion of a Critical Care course.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). If you haven't obtained a BSN upon hire, you will be asked to begin a BSN program within one year of the hire date and obtain your BSN within two years of starting the program.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience in post-operative critical care of adult cardiac surgical patients.
  • Experience with Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumps and Continuous Renal Replacement Therapies (CRRT).
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
